Zion Cassette - New photos

A few more photos of the new cassette. It's now available at the shop. Price is 900kn.

EvolutionBMX Austria Roadtrip

Check this little sneak peek on OnlySteeze.

We went from Slovenia to Wien, Linz, Bergenz (Austria) and München (Germany). There were about 10 Slovenian riders and me, the only one from Croatia. Despite the little difference in language, the whole trip was super fun, we rode skateparks (which are practically on every corner there), bikepark and some street. It was all filmed with 3 camcoders, and there was one photographer who took some legit pics during the trip.

Red Shovel Jam

I found a few nice photos of the night jam by Borut Vidrajz. Check them out on his site pakoworks.com.

Yeah, I kind of forgot to welcome the Summer season. Here's a video to inspire you if you're stuck on a sand beach without your bike. LOL

Ante Ciglar - 2010 edit

Ante is representing Sisak, Croatia. Check out some really nice barspins and 360's in here.

Balaton Bike Fest 2010 - Videos

Two great videos of the Balaton Bike Fest 2010 - Check out some riding by Mislav Mironovic, Senad Grosic, Jurica Barac, Igor Vukadinovic and some other great pros.

Also, we hit 20,000+ views on the blog. Thank you all.

Dirt time for Frontocean's Paulo Saçaki. The last few tricks are amazing. Flip whip is dialed!

STOLEN: Trek Bruiser (Zagreb)

You might know Milan aka Kab00m. He's a great photographer/all-around punker and his bike got stolen in Zagreb. ... and we don't like thieves!

Here are some details about the bike:
Trek Bruiser frame
Marzocchi Z-150 Fork (black/grey)
SunRims Doubletrack rims
Hayes disk brakes
TREK written in big letters on the downtube

It was stolen somewhere in Zavrtnica (Zagreb). Keep your eyes open! Check the group on Facebook for the latest news.

Here's a picture of the victim:

MIHAGLAVIČ

I'm a fan of Miha Glavic. That's all I have to say.

New BMX Portal

So, basically this is an idea by Vinko Horvat (the same guy who designed my current blog layout). He asked for my help as regards blogging/moderating and I accepted. As of now, the team is the two of us and Miroslav Pavisa, but we're also looking for new bloggers/mods. If you think you're good for the job, just check the CONTACT page on the portal.

This is a project that overlooks the Croatian scene from a neutral point of view, without being biased by brand or shop owners. We get you all the news, without any filtering.

There is also a COMMUNITY page that pretty much works like Facebook. You have friends, videos, photos, chatrooms and so forth. You really might want to join it.

Don't forget the FORUM: it still hasn't found its final form, but Vinko is working hard to get the best out of it - we're accepting suggestions on how to make it look like to fit your needs.

The portal is very similar to VitalBMX or Pinkbike: anyone can post their news, photos, reports, videos and so on.

Tell all your friends!

Sonic - New Photos

Ivan "Sonic" Zilic has a few new photos up on the Zion website. Check them out by clicking here. Pics by Boris Perkovic.

Urban Roof Center

Indoor is the way to go. Especially, if you live in Ljubljana where snow is your worst enemy during the winter season. The guys at Urban Roof know this and that's why they organised this small indoor park/freeclimbing spot/chill zone. Opening September 3rd. Be there.

Koprivnica One Day Video

Mostly posting this because of Ivan "Scrbo" Srbis and Tomislav Lorber. I mean, Scrbo has progressed a lot since the last time I saw him riding. He boosts pretty much anything in their relatively new skatepark. Well done.

Shajbacheck

Miha "Muja" Glavic and Chris "Tofi" Tatschl have their bikechecks on the Shajba site. Miha's Cult is really really nice.

Check them out here (Miha) and here (Tofi).

VAGRANT: Part Five - Senad Grosic / Michael Blochberger / Tobias Wicke

I finally managed to render one of the segments that were already prepared. My charger is still out of order, therefore I'll somehow try to upload the next segment as soon as possible. I'm also working on another edit, so expect something non-Vagrant related soon.

Hope you like this one.

Wet Dream

Let's not forget that Croatia has a fairly good FR/DH scene. Here filmer Hrvoje Strižić and rider Nikola Klacinski enjoy a damp session in the woods. At least, they can ride in this weather.

Attila Godi - True Story

Attila has some kind of Bio on the Harlee shop site. I wish I could understand Hungarian.

Well, at least we have this great video to keep us entertained. Probably shot sometime late 2006/early 2007. Great watch.

Weekend in Trzic - Report, photos, video

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooow! This is amazing.

Read more of our weekend in Trzic, Slovenia. It was awesome!
Report by Leo Gamboc (Blk Mrkt Bikes / Bajkmanija), translation by Yours truly.

Report in Croatian.

Luka U., Goran (NS Bikes / Alanprim) and me decided it was time to visit the famous Red Shovel trails in Trzic. It was a Saturday, 8 in the morning when we left our hometown Umag heading towards the trails. We met with our friends from Rijeka (Jon and Luka S.) at the Voklo resting-place. Unfortunately, our friends had to be home by 4pm (that's why we actually left that early).

We arrived in Trzic at 11. Ther place is actually called Krize (a small town close to Trzic and Kranj). The Divjina Dirt Park is a 3 minute ride from the place where you can park your car. You really can't go wrong.

I was the first one to see the trails. Afterwards, Goran and both Luka's reached me. Jon was the last to arrive, but the first to actually ride because we "had" to do the pro walk: a walk through the trails to see what jumps we wanted to ride, what tricks to do on which jump and so forth. While we were busy with these formalities, Jon was already putting on his shin and kneepads and was stoked to shred the trails. He wanted to make the best of the time they had to ride.

...and we started riding the several lines made of an impressive number of 34 jumps!!!!! This dirt is fuken!!

Why is it so special, you may ask? Because it's really unique in this part of Europe - it was built by the locals in a period of 8 years (2002 - present day), all by hand (without any machinery). Sick!

I can't really explain you how good this actually was. I mean, not just me: anyone who rode it said it's amazing, an absoulte pleasure to ride. I don't think I'll be able to ride any other dirt jump track, without thinking how good the trails in Trzic are. This is way better than our hometown trails in Umag (but hey, we have a contest going on in Umag on the 31.07.2010. - you know you want to come - It's going to be crazy good!)

We tried to offer the locals a boit of our seaside in exchange for the trails, but they weren't interested. :P

The trails have a chill zone as well: about 15 car seats that are completely functional (heated, massaging, and so on). :D

So, basically these are a few highlights of our trip:

- The locals take some time everyday to do some fine tuning at the trails (usually, before riding)
- Luka Š.'s girlfreind works at the Radio in Rijeka (Radio Rijeka - Xtreeme Sova - Check it out), therefore Luka wanted to record a little interview with the builders of the trails.

- There was also a little crew from Austria: 7 riders from Klagenfurt and Graz. Some of them were there for the first time, while some had already ridden the trails before. We did some "trains" together on some of the most entertaining lines.
- When the Austrians left, some friends from Maribor came. ...and the riding continues! :D

- Goran made a "Visual how-to" 360 for you :)

- Me and Goran rode all the lines together - you can see them in this small video.

- During the day we also started doing some tricks. The jumps are perfect, so it was no big deal for us to try them. But there is one small "problem": the jumps make you want to do stylish stuff like motowhips and tables - they're great for relaxed riding.

- It's awesome that, even though the trails are located in the woods, you can still order a pizza and get it delivered to you there. They're organized! :)
Luka U. was filming the whole day. But he also made time to do some fine tuning with the broom and to chill in the tent a bit.

- After we were too tired to ride, we were invited at a "rostilj" at the locals' place. We also had some beers, cokes and so on (I managed to swallow a fly). Hospitality at its best. Thanks guys!

- We slept in a tent that was placed on the landing of the second step-up. A rescue dog decided it was time to wake us at 6.30am. He kept poking the tent with his snout and barking at us. Fffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu. We had to get out of the tent. Fortunately, the chill zone was still there, so we decided to get some more sleep outside the tent.

- Nejc (local rider and one of the builders of the trails) arrived at 11 and we started the riding session.

- Day 2 was pretty much Nejc, Goran and myself riding alone. Some local MTBer joined us a few hours later. Once again, the atmosphere was great and we enjoyed every second of it.

I hope you're going to ride these trails at least once in your life, because they are really beautiful!

Last but not least, thanks again to all the locals - Nejc, Primoz, Jan, "Sektor", Jernej, Ziva, Niko - forgive me if I forgot anyone.

Thanks for reading,
Leo Gamboc (Blk Mrkt Bikes / Bajkmanija)

Veščica fun edit

Awesome edit of a trip to Vescica, Slovenia. This video actually leads me to two thoughts:

1) I definitely need to buy a Canon 5D. Quality is amazing.

2) Fcelinabilica Jam in Vescica - 24.07.2010. - Be there or you'll die of a slow painful death.

Riders in this: Miha Fistravec, Aljaz Bezjak, Oskar Korosec, Domen Fekonja and one of the locals whose name I can't really remember (Stane?). Filmed by Aljaz Bezjak.

Nik Pušnik Spring Edit

Solid edit for someone who's been riding for only 8 months. Too bad the video quality isn't all that great.

Jon Durfee on the BlackMarket blog

Success! Jon's video is on the Black Market bikes blog. Check it out by clicking here.

A few years back I met a guy who worked for the Path Bike shop here in So. Cal. Then recently he contacted me from Croatia while on a "Mission from God" (Just like the Blues Bros.) with info about a rider there we now help out... Leo Gamboc.

Well, Leo just sent me this video and e mail about Durfee and him getting loose on his first generation Mob. Durfee stomps a backflip 32 years in the making.

Enjoy the shenanigans.

Watch the video once again. You know you want to watch it.

Pistino Slopestyle Photocontest report

Pistino Photocontest 5.6.'10.

A quick note about what the contest is:

Slopestyle Club Nimis' Photocontest is a special kind of contest because its main focus are not the riders and their riding but photographers and their best 5 photo portfolio of the contest.

Video and some photos inside.

EDIT by Luka:

By the way, if you haven't noticed, this report was written by our new contributor aka p@in in the @$$ aka man of many colors aka David. Give him a warm welcome because he's here to stay. Welcome to the crew.

This year's contest took place on the 5.6.'10. with 25 photographers and 40 riders from Italy, France, Slovenia and of course Croatia.

So on a nice sunny day we got ourselves on the road, we as in Goran Jurica (our rider), Luka Urbac (driver and pro-moviemaker), Čovo (the guy with The Sunglasses) and me (local photog and p@in in the @$$ :-D ). After a little traffic jam at the border we had a nice ride till the turn for going to Nimis, so screw you Garmin (he was quite confusing). But all is well that ends well, and we got there.

The Pistino is quite an impressive slopestyle course with 2 dirt jumps on the slope of a hill. We got there in time for Goran to train a bit and for the rest of us to get a nice tan. At 4 o'clock the contest started and the photogs had 3 hours to take all the pictures they want while the riders showed their best. All riders had had to ride the whole slopestyle course at least twice which was quite a stupid thing because some riders had only dirt bikes (like our Goran) but they did their best too. At 6.30 the MTB best trick started so we begun to see some great things. Nicola Pescetto first amazed us with his try of a frontflip ( Nick does awsome 360's) and that got goran going who tried it too, they both landed it later. The contest was full of backflips ( especially by a guy on a blue bike, who seemed to know only those...), tailwhips and 360's. At 7 o'clock a BMX best trick was planned but only 2 bmxers showed up, the great Fabio D'Alessandro ( whose wallride to tailwhip out is great ) and another guy.

Exhausted but happy we wanted to go home after we eaten but we found out that Goran won something so we had to wait for the prize. And they were late so the ceremony started at around 12.

Goran got Best Trick ( and a MDE Anvil frame for that ) and Nicola Pescetto was the Best Rider ( he got a Mongoose bike ). But the real prizes were for the photogs ( first prize was a Elinchrom Ranger flash worth 1400 euros ).

There was also a truck with a crane there so you could go up and shoot ( pictures of course ). Luka and I gladly went up and the view was spectacular.

So we had a great time, and the only minus is that the awards ceremony was late, really late.

Jon Durfee - Umag edit

Some of you may not know him, some of you may have heard of him. Yes, he is American. Yes, he is an awesome rider and yes, he is a great person to take trips with. Here's Jon Durfee's first Croatian video. Hope there will be more of them.

Backflipping like there's no tomorrow! Woohoo!

Čudesni BMX Džem - Video Report

Video report of the Čudesni BMX Džem, held on 5.6.2010. in Sv. Kuzam near Rijeka, Croatia. It's a pity that I went elsewhere that day. The riding is really solid.

You might want to check the IronyBMX website for the full report as well.

Balasz Ivanfi - Louisiana edit

Well, there's one thing to expect from Balasz and it's called shredding. In this video he shreds some parks and spots in Louisiana (he visited his friend Danny Josa a few months back). I'm a huge fan of the last icepick. It is massive!

Red Bulletin: Senad Grosic in Saudi Arabia

What is Red Bulletin? It's a global magazine published each month in eight countries worldwide. It covers the very latest news from the world of Red Bull and this month's issue features a video report of Senad Grosic's trip to Saudi Arabia.

He's been really busy with travelling lately (living the dream). Apparently, his shows were very appreciated and it is really nice to see how BMX is now known worldwide also thanks to such shows.

"To support the June edition of Red Bulletin and it’s new home with the Sunday Telegraph here we have a great video of Senad Grosic as he takes us on a BMX tour of Mecca – expect the usual tailwhips, backflips and stalls that you can expect from the Austrian rider. To find out more about June’s Red Bulletin check out www.redbulletin.com"

Red Bulletin The Monthly Magazine From Red Bulletin

10 things not to do at a Skatepark

Ride has a nice article about a few things you shouldn't do at a skatepark.

I'm particularly fond of these points:

5. Don’t Be A Jerk To The Young Kids
Everyone has to start somewhere, and even though it may be frustrating that there is a six-year-old with a huge, bulbous helmet learning to pedal up a wedge while you are trying to land your first flyout tailwhip, if you are a complete jackass to the lil’ chap he may decide to pick up a scooter and leave his bike in the garage. Then by the time you are pro, that’s one less shredder Timmy out there watching your Vimeo video and buying your signature grips. Be patient with the kids and try to help them on occasion. And if their parents are around, maybe give them some advice, too, on how their kid can safely ride the park with everyone else. It’ll help the parents, it’ll help the little kid, and it’ll help you get in your runs without having to be worried about bicycular manslaughter.

and

7. Don’t Disrespect The Locals
This one covers a lot of ground and includes things like not leaving trash at the park, not messing up the ramps or ledges, and understanding how the park runs itself. If you show up to a park for the first time, chances are you are riding into someone else’s home away from home, so you need to treat that place with respect. You may never go back there again, and you may not care if the ledge gets chipped when you try your 180 to backwards feeble, but the people who ride there every day of the week want to keep their spot in tip-top shape for as long as possible. The vibe of the place and watching how the locals treat the park and each other will give you a pretty good idea of how you should act there.
