It was a tough decision for us to choose which event were we going to attend. We could've chosen the Dernek Session in Umag or the Skok fair in Zagreb. Or this new event organized by the guys at Dirt Station, which was a part of the famous RastRaft festival in Slunj, Croatia.
After a few days of discussing whether we wanted to attend a chill session or a serious contest and after checking that we had enough money for the trip to Slunj, we finally decided for the latter. We didn't know what to expect exactly, since it is in fact a new contest.
Honestly, I must say that I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't even surprised. I mean, the contest had its flaws:
- no music or speakers to actually get people to come see the show
- the contest didn't even start. It was more like an all-day jam session
- the second kicker was kind of awkward (the guys who had to build it didn't actually follow the blueprint)
- If I was the organizer, I would've tried to promote it in a better way (only a bunch of riders showed up)
Enough with the negative things though: we had a fun time after all and the first jump was just fantastic. It is a great training jump and Goran's new tricks prove me right (flip no hand and massive tailwhip).
At first, the wind was really bothering the riders, but once it stopped everything went back to its place.
The results are:
3. Michael Bellini (toboggan, tuck no hand, 360, ...)
2. Goran Jurica (whip on both jumps, flip, flip no hand, 360, barspin, no can)
1. Dario Santolic (x-factor aka x-TRAKTOR, 360 on the big jump, tuck to x-up, ...)
Highlights:
- Dario being the most desired man in Slunj that day. Too bad that all the admires were underage (way underage!).
- Goran pulling a backflip no hand for the first time
- Sunny trying to pull a so-called "Runaway" (which is basically a flatspin no can, if I'm not mistaken) and falling miserably after every single attempt
- The guys at HTV (Croatian TV) begging the riders to jump even if the wind was blowing way too much
- Leo rocking a new kosulja
- Matija Britvec doing a trials demo show which I didn't see (we didn't actually know what was going on. I just know they filmed it for the official RastRaft video)
- Pictures can be found here.
I suck at writing reports. The end.
